eBay wants to dazzle holiday shoppers with its luxury offerings by holding an “immersive” experience at a London gallery that kicked off on Thursday and runs through Saturday.
Visitors to eBay’s “Taste of Luxury” event aren’t able to buy the items they see in-person, but there are shoppable links to discover the collections on eBay.
eBay described the event in an online invitation as follows:
“Looking to pop Prada, Omega or Tiffany on you or your loved ones’ wishlist this Christmas? Step into eBay’s magical ‘Taste of Luxury’ immersive experience that aims to turn Mayfair’s exclusive scene on its head by putting pre-loved luxury handbags, jewellery and watches firmly on Santa’s radar.
“From the moment you enter, explore a dazzling display of rare, in-demand and timeless pre-loved luxury handbags, jewellery and watches, from your favourite designer brands including Saint Laurent, Van Cleef and Arpels, as well as Rolex.
“Keeping things sweet while you indulge, you will be served a chocolate twist on caviar and hotter-than-hot handbag baked goods and there will be plenty of opportunities to spread the seasonal cheer and show off the drip on your social feed.”
eBay is using the event to showcase its Authenticity Guarantee program. It’s one of several marketplaces and retailers using “pop-up” events to drum up publicity in the UK, including Amazon, Depop, Asos, Glossier, and LookFantastic, according to Retail Gazette.
Luring luxury shoppers has been a key priority for eBay since Jamie Iannone took over as CEO, telling Wall Street that enthusiast buyers come for the “focus categories” and spend in additional (non-focus) categories as well.
Holiday shoppers can spend up to 45 minutes at eBay’s “drop-in style experience” and can reserve a spot online via EventBrite.
